6:30 pm, Friday in Gurgaon. I am struggling through the traffic - aim ? to reach infront of Nokia building where my wife is waiting for me.
The car is standing still with me wondering if i will ever be able to take the U turn at Shankar Chowk under the Delhi-Jaipur expressway.
soooooooooo (thats hyperbol :P ) many cars, where are we heading to? sooner we will all end in a deadlock with cars occupying every inch of delhi roads, leaving no place to move. These were the recurring thoughts coming to my mind.
Just then, I looked outside through the side door mirror. Right there was a man, looked like a Sadhu to me with his beard and the Saffron dress but seemed more like a vagabond. He had a "chatai" spread on the footpath, a money bowl, sitting with legs folded, smoking a "chillum" with one hand detangling his beard, with a broad smile.
Now the smile he had..his brown teeth peeking.. with all the pollution around him, no home, a vagabonds life... but yet.. a broad smile and enjoying his chillum; made me smile instantly.
But this Sadhu.. is smart too. He sees me smiling.. and shouts.. "Hasega hi ya kuch dega bhi". Traffic light turns Green, I look in the cup-holder where at times in keep change. Some coins are there; i quickly take them out, 'shud be arnd 5/6 Rs' i think, and quickly throw them out and wave at him.
Sadhu's smile widened... mine too.
